Maybe they should add prozac to our water supply

Dear MoveOn member,

Have you noticed that President Bush and John McCain keep telling Americans our problems are all in our heads and that we just need to feel better?

Late last night, McCain’s campaign co-chair Phil Gramm had to step down because of controversy over his comment that we were in the middle of a “mental recession.” But the the truth is, McCain himself has repeatedly said our problems are merely “psychological”—Gramm was just more openly condescending about it.

Gramm’s gone—but so far, the media’s giving McCain a free pass for saying similar things. So we made a video. It’s short, and funny, and it’ll help spread the word. Please check it out, then pass it on!

Watch the video

With banks failing, foreclosures and bankruptcies skyrocketing, inflation at the highest level in years, and thousands losing their jobs, these comments are a measure of just how out of touch with reality John McCain and George Bush are. Let’s make sure their comments don’t slip under the radar.

Thanks!

Bush Awarded 2008 Environmental Man of the Year Award

President George W. Bush has been awarded the “2008 Environmental Man of the Year Award” for his efforts in reducing the human population. Reducing the human population is the best way to reduce human impact on the environment. Former Vice President Al Gore who came in second place for the year was stunned and said “How does George always manage to beat me?” Green Peace stated ” We admire anyone willing to go to extremes to help mother nature”. Green Peace also issued a plea going out to Emo Fans everywhere asking for their help. One way Emo fans can really help mother nature is to recruit and round up all of your Emo friends and then make suicide pacs. The reduction in hairspray and flat iron usage alone would have a huge positive impact for the ozone. We spoke to Depressed Emo Records label producer Sid Badtripin about the plea. He said “It could work but it’s hard to find proactive, non selfabsorbed Emo fans with enough commitment to follow through” The Emo fans we spoke to did not know about the plea or anything about Green Peace.

DRAFT THE BUSH TWINS!!!!!

Well what has the so called Christian President done for us? Jack shit. Personally I think that everyone currently in power is to blame because they are the ones benefiting from or corrupt system. Follow the money.

Why would they want to change a system that works for them? And that’s why it’s not going to change no matter what any of the candidates say. It’s all hot air. They are all on the same team. Inter mural sports for our entertainment and false sense of democracy and representation. We the people have no power. We have already lost our liberty.

As long as they keep us fat, sedated and dependent on them nothing will change. This administration is doing all it can to eliminate all checks and balances.

So continue to forward the scare tactics and propaganda to everyone but really what have you accomplished? If any of our forefathers were alive today, they would be labeled and jailed as terrorist.

Draft the Bush twins. Draft the rich kids and then see who gets upset.

All Star Hall of Fame Baseball Parade

Today at lunch I got to go see the baseball parade go past my office building on the Bryant Park side. The Avenues of America and 40th Street. I stood on the sidewalk for a while but it was hot so I went to the cafe on the second floor of the Japenese book store next to Staples. It was packed but not too bad and it has air condition. I was going there for lunch before I knew about the parade. If I had a better camera, I’d have a ton of great photos. The cafe overlooks Bryant Park and was the perfect place to watch the parade. I’m glad not too many people know about the cafe.

I also saw and took a photo with The Boston Red Cups! Two guys wearing red garbage cans painted to look like plastic party cups. Dan took the photo and I’ll post it when I get it.

Concerning the Pickens Plan : Follow the Money

Concerning the Pickens Plan
http://www.pickensplan.com/

I say “FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T._Boone_Pickens

I’m really glad to see some republicans wake up about our dependence on Middle East oil. But what I would like to know is what Mr. Pickens has been doing for the past 30 years?

Seriously, Ralph Nader and other “liberals” have been singing this song for 30 YEARS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_nader

Our first big crisis was when I was a kid, in the 70s. We knew then that dependency was a problem and alternatives needed to be found. But our government suppressed and fought against technology that is more energy efficient. GM and the oil companies launched a campaign to encourage Americans to buy huge cars. They still talk crap about environmentalist concerned with global warming.

http://fuel-efficient-vehicles.org/FEV-energy-suppression-CBird.php

Mr. Pickens is an oil man who helped dig the hole we are in now. He was one of the largest contributors to the Bush campaign. The Bush family has sold us down the river in the interest of themselves and their oil buddies. They don’t care about our civil liberties. They use terrorism as an excuse to spy on our own citizens. Did you know that after the 911 Attack, the FBI flew around to pick up the Bin Laden family members in America and flew them home? Why wouldn’t they hold his entire family as collateral so he would turn himself in?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bin_Laden_family

We know where Bin Laden’s family is, Bush has been to Ben Laden old home before when they were oil buddies. Listen to this article about the Bin Laden family history. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89271287

Mr. Pickens has obviously found a way to make money with other sources and that’s great and it’s about time. I don’t think nuclear is the way to go, I think switching back to local economies and sustainable living being more conservative of our resources and footprints is the answer. However, unless he got a visit from the grim reaper and has had a spiritual enlightenment I doubt his motives are for more then money. The truth is now that we have sold the Middle East a ton of weapons that they now want to use on us, they are too expensive to control as we did in the past.

The status quo must GO!!!!! None of the people in charge are on our side.

What really upsets me is that my parents generation or conservatives have been so mislead by their leaders. My parents believe in less government, state’s rights, lower taxes,  personal responsibility, truth, justice, and liberty for all, they fought for and sacrificed for these beliefs. Their mistake was believing that the Republican party stood for those beliefs. Oh, I know they say they do, but if you look at what they have done it’s a different story. The belong to the John Birch Society but we are now more like a communist country every day.

About the whole John Kerry Swift boat controversy that Mr. Picket helped fund to discredit Kerry, how can you compare Bush’s ZERO military experience and Cheney’s five draft deferments to Kerry’s war record? Just like Kerry is a REAL veteran and a REAL Christian, Bush and his cabinet are fake. Bush will get his in hell, unfortunately, not before he makes hell on earth. However, Bush is really just a pawn used by his corrupt administration, like Dick Cheney, Carl Rove, Donald Rumsfeld, Robert Gates, etc.

If this video does not piss you off, I don’t know what will.

The illegal immigrant problem is huge. The working blue collar class is getting squeezed from both sides. The illegal immigrants are driving wages down because they will take less, work under the table and not complain because they don’t want to be turned into the INS. Huge corporate layoffs are pushing the white collar workers into the blue collar arena.

It would be great if we the people would rise up together and demand that we take care of all Americans first.

People Pet Peves

I can’t stand:
People that lie all the time. (to themselves and everyone else)
Stupid people. (people who don’t value knowledge)
Self absorbed people.
People who think they are better that others and use it as an excuse to treat them poorly.
People who are nice to your face and then talk shit about you when you turn your back.
People who pretend to be your friend and act concerned so that they can tell everybody everything you confided in them.
Whores that pretend to be your friend so they can get closer to your boyfriend and try to sleep with him.
Boyfriends who sleep with your whore girlfriends! HA!!!
Girlfriends who tell you how bad your boyfriend sucks and how much you should dump them and then when you dump him, they are the first to hop on him.
People who take for granted the love you give them because they think the grass is greener somewhere else… And the grass may be dead where they are, but it’s because they pissed all over it!
Gay guys that deny being gay and date straight girls.
People who think that taking care of themselves means using everyone around them and taking advantage of those who really love them.
People who waste their talents.
People who are closed minded.
People who are looking for a free ride.
People with a victim’s mentality who don’t take responsibility for the choices they made.
People who are dirty slobs, and litter.
People who abuse animals, children, the environment.
People who are in America who are not leagle who drive working class wages down and don’t bother to learn English and dare fly the flag from the country they are from over the American flag. If their country is so great, then why did they have to leave? Go back where you came from.
People who are racist.
People who are ghettofaboulious and sag their pants down so low that I have to see there underwear or butt and they have to waddle and hold their crotch to keep them up.
People who speak Ebonics and expect to be taken seriously.

I hate Sprint Customer Service

Sprint Facing $1.2 Billion Class-Action Lawsuit
http://www.informationweek.com/news/telecom/business/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=212000818

The suit claims that the company’s early termination fees violate laws in several states as well as the Federal Communications Act.

Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) is facing a $1.2 billion class-action lawsuit over claims that it wrongly charged customers early-termination fees.

In July, a California judge ruled that the third largest U.S. wireless carrier had to pay $73 million over these cancellation fees. The attorney in that case, Scott Bursor, has now filed a federal lawsuit which claims the $150 and $200 fees violate laws in every state as well as the Federal Communications Act.

“After a full trial on merits, we proved that Sprint Nextel’s termination fees violated California’s law,” Bursor said. But Bursor may be jumping the gun a bit, as the California ruling is not final. A California judge will hear arguments from both sides Thursday, and a final ruling is expected within 90 days.

Sprint has not responded to press inquiries regarding the national ETF lawsuit, but the company did recently finalize a new pro-rated ETF policy. The mobile operator said its $200 fee will be reduced by $10 per month after month six. The adjusted cancellation fee will only apply for new contracts, but existing subscribers can get it by renewing their service agreement.

All four major U.S. wireless carriers have a cancellation fees, and nearly all of them have faced multimillion-dollar lawsuits over them. The mobile operators say these fees are crucial in recouping costs of heavily-subsidized handsets, but consumer advocates say they are overly punitive and stifle consumer freedom to switch carriers.

The Federal Communications Commission has even leapt into the discussion, and is mulling a plan to create a nationwide policy.

“While I’m respectful of state regulators, I have been skeptical that lawsuits are a good way of ensuring protection for all consumers,” said Kevin Martin, the FCC’s commission chairman.

——————————————-
I’m looking to join a class action law suit for Sprint also!
Read below but here is the short list:
I did not like my service from day one because of plan they gave me.
They placed a 125 dollar cap on my phone which meant that as soon as my bill reached 125 the phone would be cut off until I made a payment.
Then it would take 4 hours to turn back on. So in the middle of the month I had to make a second, early payment to keep my service from being interrupted because my bill was always over 125.
I was charged for internet access even though I could never use it due to network problems.
My phone could not get text messages.
When I tried to find a plan to fit my usage patterns they extended my contract with out my permission.
I have paper and soft copies of all my payments to Sprint and stayed with them past my original 2 year contract agreement.
When I went to cancel my service, they said I was behind in payment by a month and charged me an early termination fee.
Then they sent the fraudulent debt to collections and then to my credit report.
It has been on my credit report for over 4 years now and has prevented me from getting loans and good credit ratings.
It’s 500 bucks but I have not been willing to let them win.
They are shady.
Sprint Customer Service is the worst!
After years of terrible service I am pleased to finally fire Sprint! Even suffer the 180.00 termination fee. But after paying 135-145 bucks a month for my cell phone it wont hurt as bad as staying with them. I can’t even send text message and I’ve been charged for Internet access even though I can’t access the Internet due to “network” problems.
Sprint customer service is pathetic, once you actually get to a live person they can’t help you do anything and mostly can’t understand English. I’ve been trying to get plan that has 800 min, nights and weekends, mobile to mobile, and text messaging for under 100 a month. This is impossible with Sprint. No matter which plan I choose, my bill is always 135-145 bucks and every time I change plans they add more time to my contract without my permission. It’s a very shady company.
But what really pisses me off is that from day one they gave me a credit limit of 125.00 and refuse to raise it. So, since my bill is at least 130-145 a month, towards the end of the month, my service will be interrupted when I hit the 125.00 limit until I make a payment bringing it under the 125 amount. My phone will only go to their automated payment system and then once you make a payment, it can take up to 4 hours to get service back.
To top things off, when I canceled with them, not only did they charge me for early termination of the contract even thought I did not give them permissions to extend it. They claim that I was a month behind in my payment which is a lie and impossible because of the credit limit and I have proof of all my payments. So they will never get the 500.00 they are trying to steal from me and they are bastards for placing it on my credit report. I can’t wait for someone to file a class action suit against them. This type of scam is not allowed in European countries, only US citizens are made to suffer this treatment. Why does our government protect and promote these scam artist? Follow the money!
I hate Sprint now and plan to let everyone I know how bad of a company they are. So if you want cell phone service, don’t use Sprint. Don’t fall for their new CEO’s BS either. Until they get rid of their contracts they will be shady.
Great comment I found on the link above.
This business model is the same concept as junkies pushing free samples (phones) to get folks hooked (in a contract).

Secondly, if your phone was portable across carriers, then they wouldn’t have a way to force new equipment on us (with their associated contracts): people would buy their own phones, and if the carrier didn’t take good care of them, they would be free to switch their phone over to another carrier. By keeping their equipment locked into a single network and imposing a service contract to “offset equipment costs”, they don’t have to worry about providing good service.

Which brings me to the actual equipment costs…Do you really think the phone company is giving you a $700 or $800 phone for free (or even for $299)? You’re just kidding yourselves! There’s no way a business is going to subsidize the purchase price by $500 if they charge an ETF of $200…it just doesn’t make sense, even if they expect to recover the cost over a 1 or 2 year period. To subsidize $500, you would need to recover $20/month over 2 years; either we’re way over-paying for cell phone service, or else the companies have inflated the actual amounts they’re subsidizing.

Also, you can’t justify the ETF model when it doesn’t change based on the cell phone carrier’s liability. For example, if I buy a basic phone, my termination fee is the same if someone buys the “latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles”. Yet the cell phone provider has a much-reduced liability with my basic model.

If the ETF model were based on carrier liability, then you wouldn’t need a contract for buying the phone outright or just extending your contract. (What’s their liability if I pay for the equipment outright? Maybe $5 or 10 to process my account…that’s it.) This is a revenue stream, plain and simple.

Finally, wildcatherder mentioned the “GoPhone”. People who think cellphones cost big bucks should really look at how this model operates…a basic phone is $30, nicer one is $50-60, and a good phone is about $100, and a RAZR is less than $135. This is close to the actual cost because there’s no contract to subsidize it. Yes, you pay more for your airtime, but there’s no guarantee that you’ll ever refill it often enough to offset the subsidy.

(BTW – if you lose or destroy your cell phone and the carrier tries to charge you $300 for a replacement, buy a cheap GoPhone at a department store (but don’t let them register it for you!) and install your SIM card in it…ta-da! The cell phone company will try to tell you that it won’t work because they want you to spend top-dollar for the same phone, but it does. It got me through 6+ months, when my previous cell phone took a swim.)

http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/california-judge-says-sprint-must-pay-73m-etf-case/2008-07-29

A California judge has ruled that Sprint Nextel must pay $73 million in refunds to its former customers in a lawsuit over early termination fees.  However, a Sprint spokesman says that the ruling is tentative and the company has two weeks to come up with a response to this decision.

Consumer advocates are calling this preliminary decision a victory and saying that early termination fees unfairly restrict consumers from switching service. Wireless operators, meanwhile, say that ETFs are necessary because they subsidize a portion of the cost of the device and need to recoup those expenses.

This court decision comes at a time when the FCC is considering a nationwide ETF policy for carriers. Verizon has advocated that the commission adopt rules that are similar to what the operator has in place. For example, carriers should offer opt-out or trial periods for new contracts; provide pro-rated ETFs; and offer no ETFs for contract renewals unless the consumer gets a new device as part of the deal.

Verizon recently settled a similar suit for $21 million. The carrier didn’t admit to any wrongdoing but said that $21 million, which is the maximum amount it was liable for, will be doled out to plaintiffs and will cover attorney’s fees.

Hogwash

06-19-07

I refuse to be scared into more taxes by threats that my public services will be cut.

The problem is not lack of funds, it’s how the funds are managed. We don’t need more cops we need good cops. The school system has enough money to pay teachers better, they just choose not to. They choose to pay excessive amounts to the very top positions and sports.

If I get my way, they will all be thrown out of office with thier lobbyist, corupt connections, and selfish agendas. We need working class, honest people who know how to budget and allocate funds properly in office. Not Ivy League, Lawyers who were born with a silver spoon and have no clue what it’s like to live on 30k per year without health insurance. Those people do not know who to budget because they have never had to budget a damn thing! Deciding the size of boat to buy is different than choosing which prescription drug is the most important one of the five you need to take to survive because you can’t afford to take them all.

Oh and I don’t place teachers in the same catagorie as cops. Teachers are for the most part, good people, trying to make a positive influence in our children. Cops for the most part are, criminals with a badge. They don’t fight crime, they collect fines from the law abiding citizens. They know where the criminals are, they don’t want to confront the criminals unless they have to. They would much rather catch us speeding to work because that’s where the money is. There is no money in catching criminals, it cost the state more to jail and process them. That is why they let them deal drugs as long as they don’t kill to many people. However the more people they kill the more money the cops say they need to operate.

Until Americans are ready to remove everyone currently in charge an corrupt and replace them with people who are honest and actually care about Americans and our quality of life it will get worse. Americans have their heads stuck in the sand of entertainment, booze, pills, and talk radio shows. A ton of hot air and zero action. The entire system needs an overhaul. There is no moral high-ground to be found on either side of the Democratic and Republican party. They are both corrupt and doing a dance for our appeasement but take no real action to change the system. They don’t want to change the system because the system works for them. They view the people they represent as dumb and fickle. As long as they keep us fat, lazy, dependent on them and sedated, they will remain in power. They know they can cover up and spin their way out of anything and that the worst thing that will happen is a prison for celebrities. Then they can sell their book abut the scandal and recover.

The whole thing makes me ill.
What happened to Truth, Justice and the American way?
Will we ever be able to recover our integrity as a nation?

Thats my 2 cents,

I’ve been collecting mixed metaphors for a while now and my all time favorite is still “It’s not rocket surgery” but I now have a close runner up.
